A Word from the Word

Complete Protection

Psalm 121:7–8

The Lord will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.     NASB

The psalmist has a message of comfort. The Creator is also our protector. The one who created the whole universe — the mountains, the seas, the stars. He, too, who created, will protect us. He will protect us from all evil. He will protect our going out and our coming in.

It’s good to know that God is with you, not only when you begin the journey, but when you come to the end. Not only when you go out to work in the morning, but when you come back home in the evening. God is still with you and He will protect you and keep you from this time forth and forever.

God’s protection extends not only through time, but out of time and into eternity. He keeps us during each journey that we take through time and one day we’ll be taking another journey. We will be leaving time. We’ll be stepping out into eternity. But how good it is to know that even when we take that last journey, God will preserve and keep not merely our going out but our coming in. He’ll see us safely through the portals of time and into the fullness of eternity and He’ll be there to welcome us. The Creator — He is our keeper.
